Bedtime Prayer

Now I lay me down to sleep,
I pray the Lord my soul to keep.
If I should die before I wake,
I pray the Lord my soul to take.

*Quote Of The Day*

Aristotle: “Happiness is the meaning and purpose of life, the whole aim and end of human existence.”

Dalai Lama: “The greatest degree of inner tranquility comes from the cultivation of love and compassion. The more we care for the happiness of others, the greater is our own sense of well-being.”

Hey Energy Up G’s check out what i found online concerning the truth about FAST FOOD!

We’ve all heard the horror stories about fast food restaurants. These facts will definitely make you think twice about super sizing.

    1. An average person’s yearly fast food intake will contain 12 pubic hairs. – Fast food products are more likely to have human hairs and you will never know about it. Think about all the reported cases of customers finding strands of hair in their fries. What about all the hairs that possibly ended up in your stomach that you never even noticed! Now that’s scary.

    2. Most fast food chains dip their French fries in sugar to give them that deliciously golden brown hue after frying . – What many of us don’t realize is that some fast food fries aren’t just fatty and starchy. They are also sugary as well. While they don’t taste very sweet, the sugars are added for other incentives. It also helps to develop that nice outer crispiness that can be complicated to imitate when frying at home.

    3. The Strawberry flavor Contains 50 Different Chemicals. – In order to copy the flavor of a strawberry, fast food corporations include 50 distinct chemicals like ethyl acetate, phenythyl alcohol, rose, and solvent. So, the next time you get a craving for a strawberry milkshake, take a minute to remember the ingredients.

    4. Grilled chicken sandwiches and salads on fast food menus, might contain beef. – For example chicken McNuggets contain several beef additives disguised generally with secret names like “extract” or “essence”. Current offenders include Wendy’s Grilled Chicken Sandwich and KFC’s Grilled Chicken Sandwich.

    5. Hamburgers are made in huge factories. – One ordinary hamburger can encompass pieces of beef from a variety of cattle from many different areas. This multiplies the risk of contamination being that just one unhealthy cow in the group can have a major effect on making hundreds of people ill in distant regions of the country.

    6. Propylene Glycerol used for antifreeze keeps your salad crispy . – This chemical, also comes with alerts like skin and eye irritation if exposed to the human body. It is generally used in products like Sierra Anti Freeze and even worse Astroglide Sexual Lubricant .

    7. You would have to walk for seven hours straight to burn off a Super Sized Coke, fry and Big Mac . – Unless you plan to get right on the treadmill after your lunch, it’s probably best not to go for those extra humungous fries and drink with your bacon double cheeseburger.

Hey Energy Up G’s!! I wanted to share this poem I wrote it’s called Love Yourself….hope you guys like it!! ENERGY UP WOOOO!!

We each have our problems,
we each have some bad days.

Sometimes we have bad months,
that will be there always.

We all have different tastes,
that not everyone will love.

Some pray from within ourselves,
and some pray from up above.

There is always a little glitch,
in life but also inside of you.

And that’s the way it will stay,
just be cautious of what you do.

We each have different feelings,
toward ourselves and others,

But all in all of life you will find,
we are all sisters and brothers.

You may have riches or love,
you may have nothing at all.

You may be average or short,
or extremely tall.

You may be quiet or loud,
you may only have one friend.

You may wish everyday would last,
you may wish today would end.

You may have too many sick days,
you may have really good health.

But there is good in all of us,
don’t be afraid to love yourself.

Only you

A person can make you feel high,
A person can make you feel low.
But only you can decide,
Which way you want to go.

A person can hurt  you mentally,
A person can hurt you physically.
But only you can place,
A limit on your abilities.

A person can cause drama,
A person can cause a situation.
But only you can create,
Your own reputation.

A person can make you laugh,
A person can make you cry.
But only you can make,
Decisions for your life.

I guess what I’m trying to say,
That when you’re living day to day.
Don’t live by what people do,
But live by what you know is true.

MCHS Working it Out!

Energy Up! Whoo!

‘Twas the week before Spring Break and the girls are AMAZING.  We enjoyed our time with Dr. Betsy, our sugar shock with Nutella (a hazelnut flavored spread made with skim milk and cocoa), jellies and jams and our food tasting:  Lebanese Salad (courtesy of Sera’s mom), hummus, carrots, tabouleh and clementines. And the group’s overall weight loss to date is 24 pounds. Isn’t that Fit, Fab and Fierce?

A shout out to Micaela for the weekly updates and Sera’s mom for the delicious salad.

Hey Energy Up G’s!! With Mother’s Day coming up we all want to make our mom’s day special and I have some really good recipes for all you guys who love to cook and are going to make something for your mom.

Whole-Grain Waffles with Cherry Sauce

Ingredients

Cherry Sauce

  • 2 cups fresh or frozen (not thawed) pitted cherries (10-ounce package)
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 2 teaspoons cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Waffles

  • 2 cups white whole-wheat flour (see Note)
  • 1/2 cup fine cornmeal
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 2 cups low-fat or nonfat buttermilk
  • 1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil or canola oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Preparation

  1. To prepare cherry sauce: Combine cherries, water, honey, cornstarch, lemon juice and vanilla extract in a small saucepan. Bring to a boil over medium heat and cook, stirring occasionally, until the mixture thickens, about 1 minute. Set aside.
  2. To prepare waffles: Preheat oven to 200°F; place a large baking sheet on the center rack.
  3. Whisk whole-wheat flour (see Measuring Tip), cornmeal, baking powder, baking soda and salt in a large bowl. Lightly beat eggs and brown sugar in a medium bowl. Add buttermilk, oil and vanilla; whisk until well blended. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, stirring until just combined.
  4. Preheat a Belgian-style waffle iron. Lightly coat it with cooking spray. Add enough batter to cover about two-thirds of the surface (about 2/3 cup); distribute evenly with a spatula. Close and cook until golden brown, 4 to 5 minutes. Transfer the waffles to the baking sheet to keep warm until ready to serve; do not stack. Repeat with the remaining batter, using more cooking spray as needed. Warm the cherry sauce over medium heat until hot and bubbling; serve with the waffles.
